Top: H&M [similar] | Dress: Ann Taylor [can't get enough of this gem] | Coat: Tulle [similar] [love this yummy coat] | Heels: Nine West via Secondi [love these] | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff [similar] | Watch: Michael Kors | Bracelets: JCrew [almost identical] | Shades: RayBan

There's nothing I love more than pattern mixing to liven up DC winters. With a relatively conservative top & a pop of leopard in a thin belt you can take a typical structured black dress from drab to fab!

This skirt has been one of my go-tos this winter simply for the great colors & pattern. Black, is of course, my favorite color but it's always nice to change it up a bit.

This past weekend my DC family & I celebrated the Inauguration in a number of ways. One of which included attending the Presidential Inaugural Ball Monday evening. Make sure you follow District Sparkle on Twitter & Instagram for a behind-the-scenes look at the ball & catch some shots from my segment about Inaugural fashion with DC's WUSA9.

Blazer: Forever 21 [love this one too] | Top: Macy's [similar] [gorg short sleeve option] | Slacks: Michael Kors [tapered version] | Shoes: Aldo | Bag: Zara [similar] [lusting after this one] | Shades: Amazon [similar] | Necklace: Forever 21

I fell in love with this blazer the moment I locked eyes on it & it's been on constant repeat for weeks. It's a great staple piece for work but also accompanies a clutch & boyfriend jeans perfectly.

I wanted to thank you so so much for the outpouring of love that you have been sending Wendell since Friday. He is such an incredible part of my life & I would absolutely recommend adopting from a rescue shelter if you're interested in adding to your family.

For more information on the shelter that Wendell was adopted from, visit the Richmond SPCA website.

Love,

Meaghan & Wendell

[workwear wednesday] new year inspiration

One of my favorite things to do at the beginning of any new year is to clean out, organize & update my closet. & as I'm about to spend a bit of time on the west coast, in the next few months, now seems like the perfect time to pull a few cohesive patterns & colors for the office.

Winter has arrived in the nation's capitol & while I couldn't be more thrilled for the crisp air, holiday season & smell of log fires drifting through my neighborhood, it also brings  daylight savings. Meaning it gets dark an hour earlier. Meaning my photog & I are chasing the sun on a daily basis in efforts to capture outfit posts. I love you winter however, I'm not thrilled about you stealing my sunlight. It's proven to be a blogging nightmare. Hence, the change of scenery!
Let's get back to [workwear wednesdays], shall we? In my time, I've realized I'd much rather wear dresses than pants [which I'm working on thanks to Cyber Monday] which means tights. Stockings, tights, hos, whichever term you prefer - they are a must in the winter months in a formal & conservative workplace. I know, I know, we can meet for drinks & tell our dark tales about them but there's just no way around this one, ladies.

workwear wednesdays

Outfit posts are one of my favorites to write for this blog. & in an effort to try to combine the two worlds I briefly spoke of yesterday, "workwear wednesday" is the latest & greatest to be found here, on a weekly basis. After hours & on weekends, I'm one of many wearing faux fur, sparkles, & an arm party heavy enough to sink the Titanic but during the weekday my attire is far more conservative & semi-formal. For a long time, I envied my friends that were able to wear their typical ensembles to the work place but I quickly discovered that even in a 'black suit' business world I could have a little fun, abide by the dress code & still be me. In short, on "workwear wednesday" I will post what I have actually worn to work. I'm hoping that other women in similar situations come to find this as a little piece of inspiration, perhaps, & will share their secrets of how they are able to stand out in this sea of black.

For today, I leave you with a bit of inspiration. Next Wednesday the real fun begins :)
